Custom moulding

We manage every stage of our custom moulding service in-house. Not only does this give us control of the entire process, but it gives you the full benefit of our know-how.

We can help you select the best material for each product, whether it needs strength, flexibility or heat resistance.

Our modular tooling systems keep costs down, and our ability to work with different design file formats makes collaborating with us a walk in the park.

We optimise production tooling at the outset.

We feel the extra thought at the start of the project is always worth it for the long- and short-term savings and shorter time-to-market.

If you have legacy tooling or need a new supplier but don’t want to start over from scratch, we can take your orphaned tooling and make adjustments to ensure it works with our machines, without a break in production.

What we do

3D CAD Design and Assistance

Plasmotec operates multiple seats of state-of-the-art software specific to the Moulding and Toolmaking environment. We can convert your ideas from “back of the envelope” concepts to full 3D realisation. We can import multiple CAD formats, including IGES, DXF, DWG, STEP, Parasolid and more, and can assist in making sure your design is optimised for manufacture, reducing tooling costs and time-to-market.

Material Selection

From the straightforward to the highly complex, we have experience of moulding most thermoplastic materials, including:

Polyethylene (PE)
Rigid & Flexible Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
Polycarbonate (PC)
Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR)
Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE)
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
Acetal (POM)
Styrene Acrylonitrile (SAN)
High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS)
Nylons (PA)

We’re happy to use our technical contacts in the supply chain to ensure that the best material choice is made for the demands placed on the parts.

Rapid Prototyping

Using the power of our 3D CAD system we can offer rapid prototyping. We offer in-house 3D Printing of components, and a bureau service for the production of SLA (Stereolithographic) and SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) models. These models help the designer focus and fine-tune the key attributes of the finished product.

Plasmotec is also able to offer soft tooling options, using standard bases and inserts to further test design criteria. The soft tooling route offers fully moulded parts for evaluation and test, in the same material as the finished components.

Mould Flow Analysis

We have invested heavily in CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) software, to ensure that the design and tooling of any parts are optimised for volume production.

Our CAD packages seamlessly integrate mould flow analysis and tool design in one package, eliminating transposition errors and ensuring right-first-time, more of the time.

Tool Manufacture

Tooling is manufactured in our on-site toolroom, this ensures that responsibility for the efficient production of the plastic moulded parts is where it should be, with us. The elimination of a separate tool-making company compresses development times and reduces time-to-market to a minimum.

We have developed modular tooling systems to minimise the capital costs of commissioning new tool builds, and we have various payment plans to reduce the burden at the beginning of a project even more. We would be happy to discuss your project in further detail. To see how we could assist, call 01280 701 335.

Orphaned Tooling

When undertaking tooling transfer, we can provide a good home for your “Orphaned Tooling”. If you have a tool that you wish to relocate or outsource for any reason, we have extensive experience in providing a safe and effective route to continued production of your product.

In certain circumstances, it may be necessary to effect minor changes to the tooling to achieve a fit to our moulding machines, but this can easily be handled by our skilled toolmakers.

We accomplish individual projects

We believe in working closely in partnership, as if we’re an extension of your own operation, ensuring the job gets done efficiently, effectively and at the right price.

Our mission

Our mission is to deliver high-quality, cost-effective moulding solutions that reduce your total project investment—through smart design, precision tooling and efficient manufacturing—all backed by ISO-certified quality and exceptional customer service.

Our purpose

To provide a complete moulding solution that reduces your total project investment, from tooling through to production. By striking the right balance between tooling cost and unit price, we help you optimise long-term value.

As your project evolves, we offer cost-effective tool upgrades to further reduce unit costs and support your growth.
